Still waiting for my mechanic to get the plane into the shop I texted to find out if he was starting before the weekend. His response was “Go fly, we’ll be starting next week.” We only had a partial day to dedicate to flying so my wife and I started discussing the local airports with restaurants on the field. Redlands (KREI) is one of the few that she hasn’t been to with me yet, and a quick search turned up a Hanger 24 just across the street from the airport. We love the food at the Hangar 24 in Lake Havasu so decided to give it a try.
I’ve landed a few times at Redlands but never shut down. Looking at the overhead of the airport I couldn’t definitively determine where transient parking was located. It’s usually easy to find but I like knowing ahead of time when possible.
The flight there was short and easy, although very hazy once we passed over to the Inland Empire.
We landed, tied down and chocked the plane, then made the short walk out the gate and down the street to Hangar 24. We walked past the Chicken Republic food truck/tent just outside the front door and went inside. And… we learned that the Redlands Hangar 24, while part of the same franchise system, is not the same thing. They both offer craft beers, but while the one in Havasu has a full food menu, the Redlands one only offers beer.
If you want food Chicken Republic outside is your only option. The good news is that it is a great option. My wife had their Poutine and I had a Chicken Sandwich. We followed up the meal with an order of their delicious Beignets.
If you are looking for something besides the typical $100 Burger flights, check out Chicken Republic and Hangar 24 at Redlands.
